Coach Smith began his rowing career at Georgia Tech as a sophomore, competing at regattas such as the Head of the Charles, Dad Vail and IRA’s. During and after college, Coach Smith began competing at the pre-elite and elite levels, first for the Augusta Training Center, Pennsylvania Athletic Club and Atlanta Rowing Club. Coach Smith has competed on the national and international level, taking part in national selection regattas, national team trials and world championships.
Coach Smith picked up the megaphone while still in college as well. He began coaching at AJRA in 2002, and coached the Varsity men from 2003-2004. He has also assisted at Drexel University and Penn AC’s Intermediate/Senior Summer Camp. Team Smith (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) took the reigns at Emory Crew in 2007, and began to restore the team as a regional power and national competitor. It remains the goal that one day an Emory Men’s Eight will make the grand finals. Until then, he is proud of all his alumni have accomplished in the boat, the classrooms and board rooms, court rooms and operating rooms of America.
