As Emory Crew bids farewell to another successful Fall racing season and begins another competitive Spring season, we also welcome an important milestone in the history of our team: our 20th year of rowing.

We have launched a large scale fundraising effort to further the status of Emory Crew as an elite club at Emory University and as an aggressive rowing program regionally and nationally. The large scale goal of the program is to establish an endowment with the university. This endowment would create a permanent future for rowing at Emory University with a dependable flow of funds year to year. Although the initial monetary benefits of the endowment would be slight, it is important that we make the commitment to initiate this financial base. Over time, this will be the the financial foundation of Emory Crew. We have a substantial portion of the necessary initial deposit for a university endowment, and that leaves us with a total goal of $30,000.

With classes starting the 27th, Emory students are returning to campus. We would like to welcome the incoming class of 2013 and encourage you to visit us at our several recruitment/information sessions.

• Saturday, August 22nd from 10:30 PM to 1:00 AM, we will have a table in the WoodPEC gym for the Club Sports Late Night Orientation Event for freshmen.

• Wednesday, August 26th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, we will be at the Student Activities Fair on McDonough Field for all students.

• Wednesday, September 2nd during Wonderful Wednesday, we will be participating in our Fall Erg-a-thon in Asbury Circle.

• We will be in room 306 in the WoodPEC holding our 3 information meetings with question and answer sessions on the following dates
-Thursday, September 3rd starting at 8:30 PM
-Friday, September 4th starting at 6:00 PM
-Monday, September 7th starting at 6:00 PM

• There will be a Back-To-School Recruitment BBQ on Labor Day Weekend, details to follow

Emory Crew is proud to announce that the American Collegiate Rowing Association named three of Emory’s rowers to the ACRA South All-Regional Team this weekend. Seniors Jared Davis and Igor Radovitskiy and sophomore Tara Mann will be officially recognized at this weekend’s upcoming ACRA National Championship Regatta. Receiving the title of an All-Regional athlete qualifies these rowers for the ACRA All-American Honors, which will be decided after the racing concludes at the regatta. Congratulations to our rowers! Emory Crew left campus before the end of finals to attend perhaps our most competitive race of the year, the 71st annual Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, PA. Our crews were excited for the trip, and to compete in the largest collegiate regatta in the United States. Click to read more.

The Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Regatta was held this weekend in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. With 62 programs in attendance, SIRA proved as a preview for many of the events at the upcoming Dad Vail Regatta. The regatta lasted throughout the weekend with heats and semifinals racing on Saturday, and finals racing on Sunday. Emory raced in six categories:

Men’s Varsity Heavyweight 4+
Men’s Varsity Lightweight 4+
Women’s Varsity 4+
Men’s Novice 8+
Men’s Novice 4+
Women’s Novice 8+

All of Emory’s boats finished in either the Grand or Petite Finals, with two championship wins for the Men’s Varsity team in both the Heavy (S:Will Bringgold 3:Igor Radovitskiy 2:Darrel Douglas B:Jim Liepkalns C:Ashlee Tran) and Light 4+ (S:Ben Carr 3:Jared Davis 2:Joey Krakowiak B:Carson Van Sanford C:Chrishantha Vedhanayagam). Emory Crew travelled to Pittsburgh, PA for the last weekend of March to compete in the University Rowing Association Championship, the conference championship for Emory’s Division III conference, the University Athletic Association (UAA). This was the first year that Emory has attended the regatta since 2005, and this was the first year in the regatta’s history that all eight UAA schools were in attendance. After facing all types of weather, Emory Women’s Crew placed third overall in team points and Emory Men’s Crew came out on top for the Men’s Team Points Trophy, and the title of 2009 UAA Champions.

The following weekend, Emory Crew raced at the annual John Hunter Regatta at the 1996 Olympic course at Lake Lanier (Gainesville, GA). Emory had the chance to race some unfamiliar crews, down south for spring training. Facing Atlanta rival Georgia Tech, Emory Crew lead overall team points until the last race of the day, and finished in second behind GT by 6.5 points.

The schedule for this spring’s race season has been updated on the Schedule/Results page. In addition the 2008 fall racing season results have been updated.

Emory Crew came out on top at the Atlanta Erg Sprints, hosted by Georgia Tech University. With several medalling performances from both the men’s and women’s teams, Emory was able to come home with the Team Points Championship Hammer. Training continues as Emory’s next match-up is against Georgia Tech and UGA at the A-Town Cup.
